Parts of Speech

Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech or word class: the verb, the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection.

Sometimes the article and the participle are classified as parts of speech. An article is a kind of adjective which is always used with and gives some information about a noun. The participle is a word which is generally formed by adding ing, d, or ed to the verb.
