Speaking

Speaking is the second of four learning skills and is productive rather than receptive. Speaking is also known to be an active skill, with dialogue being formed between listener and speaker.

WHAT IS REGISTER? This term is used to indicate degrees of formality in language use. The register is determined by the social occassion, purpose, and audience.

WHY IS REGISTER IMPORTANT? Adapting language to suit the speech situation is an essential aspect when people are communicating. Moreover, every native speaker has a command of several different language styles; therefore, non-native speakers are expected to be able to handle different registers according to given situations.’
